North Wilkes High School

North Wilkes High School is a public school (grades 9-12) located in Hays, North Carolina. It is a part of the Wilkes County County School System. The school's enrollment typically runs from 600 to 750 students. The school's district includes the towns of Hays, North Wilkesboro, and Traphill, as well as the northern regions of Wilkes County.

The original school building, built in the 1950s, was restructured in 2006, to be replaced with new wings. New classrooms connecting the school together were built. The "new school" consists of three levels, the downstairs used for ROTC and Physical Education classes, the groundfloor used for math, and the upstairs used for science and English classes. One wing of the old school remains, which includes the cafeteria.

A new wing was added onto the main floor that streches back to the old science labs and the old library. Although the old library still remains, a newer, larger library has been added onto this new wing. The older library being so small, it was hard to find anything. The new library is home to a string of computers on 'curved' desks, placed to reduce the glare from the large windows. The newest hallway also has a new art room, and foods/ parenting/ freshman success classrooms. The hallway at the new gym lobby goes back to the cafeteria has a 'special' lunchroom just for seniors.

Athletics — North Wilkes High School supports varsity teams for the following sports: men's/women's basketball, football, men's baseball, wrestling, women's softball, women's volleyball, men's/women's soccer, men's/women's tennis, cross country, track and field, and swimming. The school's mascots are the Vikings; the school's colors are Royal Blue, White, and Red. North Wilkes competes in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference conference on the 2A level of athletics in North Carolina.

The football field "Raner Wiles Stadium" is the home of the planned addition of Doc's Wall and Thompson's Station.
